Étude critique de l’Épistémologie des études sur l'islam en France: Tensions méthodologiques, héritages coloniaux et enjeux politiques autour du «frérisme»

Abstract

This article examines the epistemological controversies within the French ac-ademic field of Islamic studies through an analysis of two recent empirical works: the government report on the Muslim Brotherhood (May 2025) and Florence Bergeaud-Blackler’s book, “Le Frérisme et ses réseaux” (2023). Drawing on the work of Vincent Geisser on “new Islamophobia” François Burgat on methodological Orientalism, Franck Frégosi on the governance of Islam in France, and Haoues Seniguer on the “authoritarian Republic,” we examine the shifting relationship between scientific research and political demands within a security-driven context. The article highlights the conti-nuities between colonial approaches and contemporary security paradigms, questions the validity of the analytical categories employed, and analyzes the mechanisms of scientific legitimization of politically motivated discourse.
